Meet the Team
Dr. Lee Stevens
CLINICAL SUPERVISOR
Throughout his career in the medical profession, he has served his country for over 25 years. He served in both Iraqi wars in the field of emergency medicine. Dr Stevens retired from the army reserves in 2009 with the rank of colonel. Dr stevens married on July 18, 2009, which happens to be his birthday. He has four children and 10 grandchildren. He moved from Shreveport, Louisiana, where Dr. Stevens served as professor at LSU. In July of 2019 he decided to take a much-needed position. Once again, he gave his services to our country by helping at the naval medical hospital in the department of pain management. He began helping our troops with chronic mental health conditions. Dr. Stevens remains active in the field of psychiatric medicine.
Dr. Susan Tucker
PHD Clinical Psychologist, CP, M.S.
CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Dr. Susan Tucker is a licensed clinical psychologist with a postdoctoral degree in clinical psychopharmacology. She has earned national awards for her successful career in program development for those incarcerated in Louisiana.
She has earned recognition from Harvard for her Family Recovery Program that focuses on an offender's return home and into the community. In addition, Dr. Tucker is a governor appointed of the Committee for Addictive Disorders. Dr. Tucker also has extensive experience in substance use and mental health program development.
Dr. Tucker was named warden over care and treatment for the Department of Corrections and headed the Intensive Substance Abuse treatment for 20 years. Dr. Tucker also served as the president of the Louisiana Psychological Association in 2019.
Melvin B. Nevels, Jr.
MSW, LCSW, LNHA
Executive Director
Melvin is a two-time Grambling State University graduate, holding both a master’s in social work and a bachelor’s in Social Work. He currently practices as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an independent practitioner. He holds licensure in the State of Louisiana to manage nursing facilities as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator.
Melvin says: “I thrive on a systematic approach to healthcare, ensuring that each patient's journey is met with excellence in treatment planning and cost-effective care. My role encompasses critical coordination across the healthcare continuum, and the creation of safe, outcome-driven discharge plans. I leverage my MSW education and crisis counseling acumen to guide facilities through strategic program admissions, transitions, and regulatory compliance.”
“A big part of who I am relates to advocacy,” Melvin says. “My life’s work is dedicated to servant leadership and bringing awareness to behavioral health. Many factors can lead to mental illness, including genetics, physical illness or injury, and traumatic life experiences. However, through client-centered practice, barriers are overcome.”
Leslee B Blake
RAC, ICADC

Counselor
Leslee is originally from Riverside California, where she spent two years on the Dean’s List at Riverside City College and earned her Human Services with Addiction Counseling Certification. She has been a counselor since 2008 in Palm Springs, California, Statesboro, Georgia, and more recently, at CADA in Bossier City. Leslee has worked in inpatient and IOP settings.
“I have been in Recovery for over 20 years, and I help people because I believe in people and humanity,” says Leslee. “I chose this field because as a person who suffered from the disease of addiction, I know that anyone can recover and live a beautiful and meaningful life. The highlights of my career are seeing those who flourish in sobriety and go out in the world to become healthy and productive members of society, living their dreams.”
James A. Burgos

COUNSELOR
James A. Burgos is a Licensed Professional Counselor, with a Master Degree in Counseling and Guidance. He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University. James specializes in helping clients develop better cognitive and emotional skills, reduce symptoms of mental illness, and cope with various life challenges to improve their lives.
He is experienced in substance abuse, sex offender treatment, anxiety, stress, bi-polar, personality, mood, and psychosis related disorders. James' style of therapy relies on a mutual relationship of understanding, acceptance, trust and empowerment. Together with his clients, he strives to explore and define present problem siutations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. James' emphasis on intrinsic motivation, goal setting, and patience have been very effective in facilitating change.
James' experience include helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, and depression. He has worked with couples to repair trust, improve communication, and strengthen their emotional intimacy with each other. James believes that taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes a tremendous amount of courage. He is committed to facilitate and support his clients in that process.
Eric Scott Burt

Counselor
Eric Scott Burt was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated magna cum laude from Northwestern State University in 1985 and began working in drugs-of-abuse research. He graduated cum laude from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) in 1993 and began working in the hospital medical laboratory science field. Most recently, he completed at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana an additional four semester course of study that allowed him to work directly with substance use disorder clients in a clinical setting.
In addition to his research and medical laboratory pursuits, his education studies include an emphasis in Literature, the German Language, and Philosophy.
Catherine Vanwinterswyk
PLPC
COUNSELOR
A Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC), Cat is originally from the Shreveport/Bossier City area. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a second major of Psychology from Centenary College in Shreveport. She obtained her Alternative Teacher Certification in Secondary Mathematics and Biology from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana and completed her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Cat specializes in mind-body connection, addiction, grief, trauma, and Christianity. She believes that a person's experiences throughout their lifetime help to create the person they are today and also knows the mind and body work together for the overall health of the individual. Cat uses an eclectic counseling style that incorporates numerous theories and methods with her clients. She incorporates mindfulness, grounding, and relaxation techniques in addition to aromatherapy, sound therapy, breathing techniques, and visualization among other sensory components in her sessions.
Having been an endurance athlete, she completed a half marathon and a half ironman triathalon. She has mountain biked numerous endurance events in Louisiana, Texas, and in the mountains of Arkansas, Colorado, Arizona, and Utah. She now tends her honeybees on a regular basis and collects swarms in the spring and early summer.
Susan Reeks
IOP Marketing Liaison
Susan has worked in the field of marketing and development specific to substance use treatment for over six years, with a marketing background spanning 20 years. Her previous positions include Chief Development Officer at a large nonprofit in Shreveport, Development Director at LSU Shreveport, and General Manager/Development Director at the Red River Public Radio Network. Susan is also a professional writer of hundreds of published articles, as well as the book “On the Shoulder of Giants” that chronicles the history of the Community Foundation of North Louisiana. Susan has a special interest in behavioral health issues, from addiction to autism.
Tracy Hearne
OFFICE MANAGER
Tracy Hearne has served as administrative assistant in professional settings for the last 20+ years. For the last several years, she has chosen to work in the field of mental health and substance abuse. "I find that organization, a positive attitude and meeting clients where they are at is the key to success." In her free time, Tracy enjoys spending time with family, walking her dog, attending church and rooting for LSU during football season.
